Perth: Day 1

Hey Guys!!! Welcome to my brand new blog address and my first ever blog entry here!!! Ok.... here goes, this is day 1 of my Perth Vacation!!!

Fast Facts: Distance traveled by air throughout my entire vacation - 10,476kms
Distance Traveled by land throughout my entire vacation- 2,480kms
Total Distance Traveled by land and air throughout my entire vacation (Round Trip)- 12,956kms

I woke up at 4am on the 10th of May 2009 to catch the 6am flight to KL and erm... the food was quite good. As you can see below, they served omelets and sausages for breakfast.

Before landing at klia, i spotted quite a few streams of smoke rising from the ground (As shown below). On closer examination, i realised that they were caused by open burning

For my flight to Perth, they served me with almost the same thing but the omelet was better this time and it came with nuggets and a better tasting sausage as it is after all an international flight:

My dad ordered nasi lemak but as you can see, it does not look very good. lol:

Since that the plane was quite empty, my mum had the whole role of seats to herself which allowed her to lie down flat and have a good rest.

Finally, after a few hours in the air, land was finally in sight:

As we flew closer towards mainland aus, i was finally able to get a good look at the coast line and the beaches:

As you can see, the great Australian dessert stretches all the way to most of the beaches due to severe drought:

This so called landing strip lies in the middle of the great dessert which is technically in the middle of nowhere. Could this be a top secret military air base used for testing top secret planes and weapons? Could there be aliens inside? Could this be Australia's Area 51??? I think that they call it area 15 here...lol!!!:

And now for your viewing pleasure, more dessert!!!:

Crops could only grow beside a river or a water source in this harsh dessert as shown by the pic below (bottom left of the pic):

Some islands and coral reefs along the cost line:

X marks the spot!!! (click to enlarge if you can't see the "X") Now, what is that gigantic x marking??? Uranium? Gold? Aliens? Nuclear Weapons? Osama Bin Ladin's Hideout? Who knows???

Just look at all those farms:

A few dome shaped salt lakes.... Or are they gigantic flying saucers in disguise???:

More farms:

Finally, after a 5hr and 20min flight, i was back on the ground again and i have finally reached my destination. The temp was around 22c which was kinda great!

Fast Facts: Perth is the most isolated city in the world with a population over a million. Perth is closer to Singapore, Jakarta, and Kuching compared to Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra.

That's me in Perth International Airport:

When i arrived, i saw this group of gals sitting on the floor right next to the arrival hall. wonder what they were doing sitting on the floor???:

My relative brought us for a drive around town before going home:

Heading into the city (City skyline at the background):

We drove into a tunnel which is also the only tunnel in the state of Western Australia:

City skyline with autumn coloured trees in front:

Taken from within the city:

Hay Street:

The Bank West building standing infront of the sunset:

St George building (left) which is the tallest building in the state of Western Australia:

I took this pic as we were leaving the city (while we were crossing the Swan River):

Finally, my family and i reached my Grand aunt's house which is also my home for the next week:

As we all know, we usually feel hot and sticky back in Kuching which is caused by high humidity levels but in Australia, the humidity is usually very low which means that you will never feel humid and sticky. This also means that you will constantly get that cool feeling which is great but unfortunately your skin has to pay the price. Low humidity means dry air and when the air is dry, your skin will crack and rashes will come popping out and yeah it hurts but simple moisturiser will always do the trick!!! And...... yeah.... that's a pic of my hand by the way which was all covered with rash.

As the sun sets, the temperature fell a lot!!! It fell from a nice 22c to a chilly 7c which was a great experience for me and my family. So, after showering, we went straight to bed as we had a big day ahead of us. So, see you next time for Day 2 of my aussie vacation.... seeyea!!!

To Be Continued.........
